Adult Faith Formation

Provides programs for the adults in the parish, such as Bible Study, Parish Missions, and specific workshops to educate and inform the members of our faith community. Activities will be advertised through the bulletin and website.

Altar Servers

Servers assist the priest at Mass. Boys and girls in 3rd grade and up are encouraged to become Servers. Training is provided. Servers are asked to serve 1-2 Masses each month.

Baptism Preparation Class Facilitators

These classes help the family prepare for this first sacrament and understand the extent of the commitment they are making on behalf of their child. Classes are led by teams of people who have children of their own and want to use their experience to help families prepare for the Baptism. Class lasts between 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Upcoming class dates and times are published in the church bulletin.

Council of Catholic Women (Women's Club)

CCW (Women's Club) meets last Monday of the month. There is something for everyone's interest, be it social, spiritual or education.  Upcoming events are published in the church bulletin.

Dinner Club

This is a casual group that meets for good food, meeting new friends and having a fun night out. Groups of 8-10 meet on Saturday evenings five times a year. Singles as well as married couples are welcome. Similar to a "progressive dinner format," each couple or single brings an assigned dish (appetizer, salad, vegetable, dessert). The host provides the location, main course and beverages. It's a great way to meet, and get to know, fellow parishioners.

Eucharistic Ministers

All who are a part of this ministry are appointed for a 3-year term. You aid in the distribution of the Eucharist at weekend and holy day Masses.

Funeral Assistance

Deliver food from the grocery store to the funeral home in the area for grieving families of St. Bernard.

Garden Club

Help is needed in the spring to plant in the window areas around the church building and to plant annuals in some of the other gardens.

Hands of Care

This is a caring, confidential group of trained Lay Ministers available to make hospital and home visits. They are commissioned also to bring Communion to those who are unable to get to Mass because of illness, handicap or related circumstances which keep one confined to home. Training is provided.

Our Seniors meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Pastoral Center from 11:30-2:30 for food and fellowship.

Hospitality & Welcoming

Hosts & Hostesses welcome you for "coffee & donuts fellowship" after our weekend liturgies once a month. Members of this ministry also help welcome new parishioners.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights was originally formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

Liturgy Core Group

This is a group of people, who help to create liturgies that are prayerful & inspirational. It is comprised of four committees. 1. Art & Environment: They plan the decorations for the various liturgical seasons. 2. Music: This group selects the appropriate music for the various seasons & celebrations. 3. Writers: These people write the Prayers of the Faithful(petitions) that are used at our Masses. 4. Special Needs: This group plans special events or activities or take-home remembrances for various celebrations or liturgical seasons.

Marriage Preparation Facilitators

This program consists of a parish couple meeting with the engaged couple three times to dialogue on topics important to marriage. Diocese of Joliet requires each engaged couple to attend the class before the wedding.

Men's Club

Meets the 1st Tues. of the month at the Pastoral Center at 7:00 PM. Open to all men of the parish. They sponsor various social activities.

Ministry of Compassion

The members of this ministry visit the local funeral homes during wakes or memorial services on behalf of St. Bernard Parish Family to pray for the families, the beloved deceased & to offer comfort at this time of loss. You are also invited to be a part of our All Souls Day Mass, at which we especially remember those from our parish who have died in the last year. Training is available to anyone that feels called for this ministry.

Ministry of Meals

Parishioners provide a meal to a family that is undergoing a period of crisis. Usually Monday evening is chosen each week, with a different parishioner providing the meal. This service is provided on a "needs" basis.

Music Ministry

Contemporary Choir: Meets for rehearsal once a week & leads the assembly in song at one of the weekend liturgies. Youth Choir: Meets every 2 weeks & sings for about 2 weekend liturgies a month. Leaders of Song: Rehearse during the week & lead the assembly at 1 of the weekend liturgies.

Parish Council

Consists of the Pastor, Deacon, 4 Commission Heads & 6 members elected from the parish at-large. Council meets the 2nd Monday of the month. All parishioners are welcome at Council meetings.

Peace & Social Justice

This organization meets on one Tuesday each month. Their purpose is to make the parishioners aware of issues revolving around poverty, peace, justice, homelessness & world hunger.

Proclaimers

Men, women & teens of the parish are called to proclaim the Scripture readings at our weekend liturgies. Training is provided.

Religious Education Program

RE operates with help of over 100 volunteers in Grades 1-6 and the Confirmation Program. Our volunteers help out as Catechists (teachers), Classroom Aides, Clerical Aides, and Traffic Controllers. Phone the Religious Education Office if you would like to help.

Respect Life

Dedicated to fostering the culture of life, this ministry seeks to inform and take action on life issues. A rosary is said every Friday following the 9:30 AM Mass for Respect Life causes.
