Welcome to St. Bernard's Religious Education Program. We offer faith formation opportunities for children of registered parishioners in public schools Grades 1-8 and high school youth ministry. Children of parishioners in Catholic school are welcome to attend sacrament preparation classes along with our public school students. Our office is located across from Old Oak Golf Course. Office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The office is only open 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday class days. Evening and weekend hours are by appointment only.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES FOR GRADES 1-6
Religious Education classes for Grades 1-6 meet 2-3 Wednesdays per month at the Pastoral Center (church building). Grades 1-3 meet from 4:30-6:00 PM and Grades 4-6 meet from 7:30-8:30 PM. Families must be registered parishioners of St. Bernard's in order to enroll their children in RE. All children in the family are expected to be enrolled from Grade 1 through Confirmation. CONFIRMATION PROGRAM FOR GRADES 7-8+
All new students (7th Grade and transfers) MUST attend orientation with a parent before beginning the Confirmation Program. This year's Orientation takes place on Tuesday, September 12th from 7:00-9:00 PM. New students will register for their first class at Orientation. Students are not admitted to class unless they have pre-registered. Monthly workshops (classes) are on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the church building according to the schedule.
The next month's class schedule is distributed during class. Students may only register for workshops or meetings listed on the monthly schedule. If a student misses class, schedules are available on the table by the North Doors in the church building. Pick one up at daily or weekend Mass. Phone the Religious Education Office with three class choices by 4PM the day before class OR place the completed registration form in the Collection Basket at weekend Mass. Email registrations are NOT accepted. The program is designed to be completed in two years, however students who do not complete their preparations by June of the second year, are permitted to continue on for a third year or until all preparations are met.
Students who have completed all their preparations are contacted, via letter, in June with the date and time of their interview. If a student cannot attend at his or her assigned time, contact the REP Office as soon as you get your letter. We will reschedule you. We will inform students of the date of Confirmation at their interview. This date is set by the Diocese of Joliet and is communicated to Parishes in early summer.
TUITION and FEES
Tuition is paid each year a student is enrolled in the program Grades 1-6 and for only two years in Confirmation (even if it takes longer for the student to complete their preparation). Sacrament fees are paid in Grade 3 and Grade 8 (or the second year of the Confirmation Program). New families are asked to pay a $25 non-refundable registration fee that is applied toward tuition. Please DO NOT EVER let the cost of tuition stop you from registering your children in Religious Education. There are many options available to families in special circumstances.
