Welcome to St. Bernard's Religious Education Program.  We offer faith formation opportunities for children of registered parishioners in public schools Grades 1-8.  Children of parishioners in Catholic school are welcome to attend sacrament preparation classes along with our public school students. Our office is located in the Rectory across from Old Oak Golf Course on Parker Road.  REP office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  The office is not staffed on Wednesday class days because we are at church, but you may leave a message which will be picked up on Thursday.  To call in an absence, please call the church phone number, (708) 301-2301 between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM on class days only. Evening and weekend hours are available by appointment.  Please call to schedule.



The Religious Education Program operates with over 50 volunteers and we need extra help in the coming year.  If the classes are not staffed, we have to create a waiting list until volunteers are found.  Volunteers receive a discount on their tuition.  All volunteers over 18 are background checked and take a class on preventing child sexual abuse.  All Catechists must be over 18.  High school students who have been Confirmed, may Aide in the classroom.  High school students over 16 may help with traffic control in the parking lot.  Complete a Volunteer Interest form, that is included with your registration materials, if you will help.  Babysitting for volunteers' children is available in the afternoon session.



Religious Education classes for Grades 1-6 meet 2-3 Wednesdays per month at the church building.  Grades 1-3 meet from 4:30-6:00 PM and Grades 4-6 meet from 7:00-8:30 PM.  Grades 7-8 meet once-per-month at the same time as Grades 4-6.  Families must be registered parishioners of St. Bernard's in order to enroll their children in RE.  All children in the family are expected to be enrolled from Grade 1 through Confirmation.  Contact the Religious Education Office at (708) 301-3020 for more information.

All families must register each year for Religious Education.  Current families (those who already have children in the program) receive registration packets in the spring.  Forms were sent home with your youngest child (check those HOMEWORK ENVELOPES)  in March. If you need another form, pick one up from church after Mass or stop by the office during the week.  To add a new First Grader, fill out their information and attach a copy of their BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE.  (Please note that new First Graders cannot be added to the system without a Baptismal Certificate.)  To avoid a tuition increase and to ensure your child begins class on time, return your form BEFORE AUGUST 1st.  (Tuition goes up on 8/1).  Tuition is not due until REP Material Pick-up, but your BLUE REGISTRATION form is due BEFORE August 1st.



All new families must be registered with the Parish before we can register you with Religious Education. You can take care of this when you come to register for RE. You may pick up forms at church, but we ask that you register in person at the Rectory, 14135 S. Parker Road, Homer Glen during the week. We need a copy of the BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE for every child your are registering.  If children are transferring from another Parish or Catholic school, we need TRANSFER PAPERWORK from that Parish or school.  Please plan on spending at least 30 minutes with us so we can go over some important information with you.  We ask new families for a $25 non-refundable Registration fee that we apply to your tuition.



Tuition is paid each year a student is enrolled in the program Grades 1-8  Sacrament fees are paid in Grade 3 and Grade 8 (or the second year of the Confirmation Program).  New families are asked to pay a $25 non-refundable registration fee that is applied toward tuition.  Please DO NOT EVER let the cost of tuition stop you from registering your children in Religious Education.  There are many options available to families in special circumstances.  Contact the Pastor or the REP Office for information.  Discounted tuition is available for volunteers.

All REGISTERED families (a blue Registration Form was turned in before August 1st), may pick up their child's text book, schedule, teacher assignment and can pay tuition.  Tuition is due in full on REP Weekend.  The parish accepts cash, checks, and credit card payments.  REP Weekend is not the time to register new students.  Families who register after July 31st pay higher tuition rates and students might not be able to start class on time.
